SOUL TRAIN AWARDS 2012 (CARIBBEAN INCLUSION)

The nominees for the 2012 Soul Train Music Awards was just announced in a press conference via live stream (Wednesday, September 19 @ 11am EST via Centrictv.com).

This year there is not a Reggae category per se, but there is a "Best Caribbean Performance" category. Viewers have the opportunity to select the winner by voting online.

The nominees for "Best Caribbean Performance are:

Cover Drive – “Bajan Style”
Damien “Junior Gong” Marley- “SuperHeavy”
Jimmy Cliff- “Rebirth”
Matisyahu – “Spark Seeker”
Sean Paul – “Tomahawk Technique”

Rihanna is the only other Caribbean nomination under "Best Dance Performance". These are the nominees:

BeyoncĂ©- “Love On Top”
Chris Brown- “Turn Up The Music”
Nicki Minaj- “Starships”
Rihanna- “Where Have You Been”
Usher- “Scream”

I screamed my head off in 2011 after Gyptians "Hold Yuh" performance was cut so we could watch tomfoolery they considered skits and bits. Now this too is a slap for me. As much Reggae/Dancehall/Culture/Roots/Lovers Rock music we have and we just get "Caribbean Performance". There's not even any instructions on how the voting will take place.

I'll cross my fingers that "Soul Weekend" will have Reggae performances. While there is no obligation to include us it would be unwise to exclude us.
